COT Smart Money bullish in the latest CFTC report. This week’s Commitments of traders report for the S&P 500 regular contract shows that the Commercial’s net position has risen to its highest level for two years.

Commitments of Traders Data released 1st May 2009
Commitments of Traders data released today shows: SP500 Commercials slightly increased their Net Short position from -81,388 contracts to -83,921 contracts. Their Sentiment Index fell from 25.1% to 24.2% That means that as of last Tuesday they became a little more bearish than the previous week. The Smart Money is still fading this rally.

As of Tuesday 31st March, SP500 Commercials were 10,000 net contracts more short than they were a week before.

SP500 Commitments of Traders Data 27th March
SP500 Commitments of Trdaers Data released 27th March Commercials increase their net short position. Large Traders are back to being net long. Small Traders are a lot less net long. This is mixed but Smart Money is not yet “buying the rally”.

The Commitments of Traders data released today showed that the Small Traders Net hit a new multi-year high once again this week. The not-so-smart-money are still bottom fishing and that is probably a good indication that the ultimate low for this bear market is not close.

SP500 hit a new low today but.. Small Traders net position shows they are still extremely bullish. As I noted after the November low – it would be extremely rare to see an important market bottom put in with the Small Traders so bullish.. and here we are again.
